Petition · past parliament

The public must own a licence to own certain dog breeds.

Rejected 16 signatures

What the petition asks

I would like an enforcement of the public to have a licence to own certain dog breeds. Dog attacks are on the rise year after year and the breed is not the problem but bad owners, to obtain a licence you must prove you are capable of handling such breeds.
I want to have licencing come into effect because deaths are on the rise, many of them children, I don't want to see a breed be banned because there are irresponsible owners but I would like the Government to recognise and take the opportunity to education the public rather than creating fear for certain breeds.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We understand you want people to be required to hold a licence if they wish to own 'certain dog breeds', however it's not clear which breeds you want this to apply to.

You could have a petition calling for owners to be required to obtain a licence in order to own specific dog breeds, so long as it was clear which breeds these were.
