Abolish the standing charges on Electricity and Gas supply to homes

Rejected 14 signatures

What the petition asks

Force energy suppliers to abolish standing charges on domestic energy accounts
These charges are unfair and create energy poverty for people who are struggling with the decision wether to heat or eat.
Householders are now paying up to 90p per day for just having a connection, regardless wether it’s even switched on at the mains.
This cannot be justified and must be stopped.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about standing charges are a matter for utility providers and Ofgem, not the UK Government or Parliament.

The price cap is a cap on a unit of gas and electricity, with standing charges taken into account. Find out more about the energy price cap, including how it includes standing charges, here: https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/check-if-energy-price-cap-affects-you
