Extend hate crime offences to include targeting people based on their sex

What the petition asks
Make people being attacked or victimised for their sex a hate crime, as is already the case for (e.g.) race and religion.
Sex is a protected characteristic in the Equality Act. Hate crime offences already exist for where people are attacked because of other protected characteristics such as race, sexual orientation, or religion. All the protected characteristics should have equal rights. It is also important because women are attacked every day simply because of their sex and making this a hate crime could give more information on how to tackle it. Nobody should be hurt because they are a woman or a man.
