What the petition asks

Restrict the ability of MP's or publicly funded organisations to block social media users from following or commenting, unless their comments fall outside of free speech & are considered criminal conduct, & only allow either an APPG or SM platform to endorse prior to blocking if applicable.

Recently, some MP's & organisations have blocked users from viewing their posts from their social media accounts.

Consider in conjunction with High Court ruling Chambers v DPP [2012] EWHC 2157 (admin).

Where used to convey party political messages or conscientious social policy information, exclusion or viewing restrictions could prevent people from knowing important information, possibly even preventing an informed decision with regards elections or publicly funded campaigns &/or causes.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about whether to block users on social media are a matter for individual social media account holders, not the UK Government or Parliament.
