What the petition asks
The Minority Scottish government is wasting UK tax payers money on their own single party political agenda . Tax payers money should not be used for party politics. Halt all spending on Sturgeons independence papers and publications and close down these civil servants wasting hours on it.
The UK government should halt all activities and spending by civil servants on this preparing for something the majority don’t support. The is an abuse of power beyond the remit of the Scottish parliament . All Scottish foreign offices should also be closed alongside foreign aid from Scotland as these are not developed responsibilities. Use the savings to address the cost of living crisis the country is current in.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
Decisions about spending by the Scottish Government are a matter for the Scottish Government and Scottish Parliament, not the UK Government or Parliament.
The legislation establishing the devolved administrations only enables these administrations to spend money where this has been approved by legislation passed by the relevant legislatures, and devolved legislatures can only pass legislation about matters that are not reserved to the UK Parliament. Determining whether legislation or spending by a devolved administration was consistent with their legal powers would be a matter for the courts.
