Introduce legislation to eliminate plastic packaging in supermarkets
Rejected
9 signatures
What the petition asks
The UK Government must introduce legislation making plastic free transition plans mandatory for UK supermarkets.
UK supermarkets currently generate 900,000 tonnes of plastic packaging each year. Some supermarkets have trialled and announced plastic reduction measures, but we need industry-wide action across the UK. By ditching plastic packaging, supermarkets have the power to lead the way in dramatically reducing the amount of single-use plastic produced.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We understand you're concerned about plastic packaging, however we're not sure what specific action you want the Government to take to "eliminate" it.
