Petition · past parliament

Make it a law that people must use their indicators whilst driving.

Rejected 17 signatures

What the petition asks

The government should make this part of the highway code and law that everyone must use their indicators.
It is health and safety, people who don't indicate at roundabouts or changing lanes on motorways have had close calls and an accident could happen.
Nowadays pretty much nobody uses their indicators, we need to act now before it gets much worst. Driving instructors need to inform the drivers it is a must.
In the US it is already a law not to use your indicators. We need to adopt it in this country.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

The Highway Code already sets out the requirement to give signals while driving

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/general-rules-techniques-and-advice-for-all-drivers-and-riders-103-to-158

We could accept a petition calling for a specific criminal offence of failing to indicate, rather than relying on driving without due care and attention, which can already be prosecuted.
