Grant legal protection to ancient trees

What the petition asks
The Government should give legal rights to ancient trees to protect them from being felled or damaged, in the same way that laws are in place to protect ancient properties.
There is currently insufficient protection on our ancient trees. Trees can be felled for monetary purposes without considering the heritage of the trees and landscapes. If the cost to find alternative solutions to felling are too great the trees, which have been growing for hundreds of years, can be sacrificed all too easily.
