Mandatory clear prominent labeling for halal and kosher certified items.

Rejected 12 signatures

What the petition asks

It is forbidden for many Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists & Christians to consume any halal or kosher certified item. Without proper labeling we could be consuming it, without knowing. We ask for clear prominent labeling to make an informed choice e.g. a top right corner sign saying Religiously slaughtered.
Meat items should also say on the top right halal or kosher certified Non-halal or non-kosher-certified meat items should say or non-religiously slaughtered. Halal-certified non-meat items should also be prominently labeled. The government said there would be more opportunities for such labeling post-Brexit (1). There was also a public consultation (2) There has been no change.

(1) All halal and kosher certified products are to be prominently labelled as such.
(2) Require halal and kosher certified products be prominently labelled as such

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure if you want halal and kosher certified items to be labelled, or if you want all food products to be labelled with whether or not they are halal or kosher.

We have published the following petition, which you might like to sign:

Require all meat products be labelled as 'Halal' or 'Not Halal': Require all meat products be labelled as 'Halal' or 'Not Halal'
