What the petition asks
This petition urges the House of Commons to recognise the 1988 genocide against the Isaaq clan as a crime against humanity.
In 1988 the Isaaq clan of the Somali Republic experienced a systematic, state-sponsored genocide that resulted in the murder of upwards of 200,000 innocent civilians.
During the genocide, thousands of Isaaqs fled to the UK, some were trafficked as children.
In 2001, the UN commissioned an investigation and published the results which confirmed that a genocide against the Isaaq people happened between 1987 and 1989. The UK's House of Commons too should recognise it as a genocide.
