What the petition asks
We want people found guilty of rape to spend the rest of the life in prison. The Government should make a whole life sentence the only penalty for rape.
Rape is a horrific crime that ruins lives. It can cause PTSD, depression and anxiety. Many young girls and women are scared of going out at night because of fears of sexual assault, including rape.
By increasing the minimum sentence for rape the Government can help ensure that that offenders receive a sentence that matches the seriousness of their crime, and rapists can be kept off the streets.
