Petition · past parliament

Stop MPs receiving any further pay increases until the next general election.

Rejected 17 signatures

What the petition asks

There is currently a cost of living crisis causing complete mayhem in this country, people having to choose whether to pay bills of eat. In the circumstances I think it would be wrong of MPs to accept any further increase in salary until the people they serve are in a better place financially.
It would be morally wrong for MPs to receive any further pay increases while telling the public to "tighten their belts", and that we "should not expect too much in way of wage increases."

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) is responsible for deciding on MPs' expenses and pay. IPSA is independent of both Parliament and Government.
