Hold the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Swindon, Wiltshire

Rejected 9 signatures

What the petition asks

Help Swindon County council fund and run the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest.
Everyone loves an underdog story.

The county ground can accommodate over 10000 people.

Swindon and the surrounding towns and villages can accommodate 5000 rooms.

It is only an hour away from Heathrow.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about the UK's involvement in the Eurovision Song Contest are a matter for the BBC, not the Government or House of Commons.

The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the Government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.

This means the Government is not responsible for decisions relating to the Eurovision Song Contest.
