Reopen the Port of Ramsgate and re-establish a direct ferry link to Belgium.

Rejected 17 signatures

What the petition asks

For many years there was an established ferry link between Ramsgate and Ostend in Belgium, which was a convenient route for trucks and cars travelling to Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. The link ended in 2013.
To alleviate the congestion at the Port of Dover and bring additional revenue to Ramsgate, the Government should encourage and actively seek ferry companies to reopen the link between Kent and Belgium. Doing so would reduce the amount of freight and passenger vehicles travelling through Dover port and provide an efficient and cost-effective route for vehicles and passengers who are heading to Northern Europe.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about reopening the port of Ramsgate and any new ferry services from Ramsgate are a matter for its owners, not the UK Government or Parliament.
