Create a Bicycle Awareness Course for car drivers causing danger to cyclists
Rejected
21 signatures
What the petition asks
Car drivers caught speeding are offered the chance to attend a speed awareness course that lasts approximately 3 hours in order to qualify for a reduced speeding fine. I believe a similar Bicycle Awareness Course for car drivers found guilty of causing danger to cyclists should also be created.
Because the recent changes to the Highway Code advising car drivers they should ensure there is a 1.5 metre gap when they pass a cyclist has not informed enough car drivers
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
Decisions about whether to offer a lesser penalty to drivers who agree to take a retraining course are a matter for prosecutors, and the design of retraining schemes are a matter for the organisations that run these schemes, not the UK Government or Parliament.
