Petition · past parliament

Increase the provision of free school meals to up to £5 a day at all schools.

Rejected 14 signatures

What the petition asks

Students that rely on their school's canteen to get at least one meal a day should be able to purchase a sufficient amount of food to sustain them for the rest of the day £2.20 a day is not enough.
I am about to enter year 13 and since year 7 I have been provided with £2.20 a day for school meals which was hardly ever enough especially now as a 17 year old. I do not want anymore children having to buy significantly less than their peers and feeling embarrassed about it once they enter secondary school.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you're concerned about arrangements for free school meals, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. Students entitled to free school meals are entitled to free meals, but do not receive an amount of money to spend on food. The Government provides funding to schools for students who are on free school meals, to help cover the cost of providing these.

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to increase what students entitled to free school meals are entitled to be given by their school, or to increase funding for free school meals, to improve the quality and amount of food that is provided, if either of those are things you want to happen.
