Price cap UK Wholesale Energy prices to pre 2020 levels

Rejected 9 signatures

What the petition asks

Bring an immediate special session of Parliament together to vote on agreeing special and extraordinary measures to immediately price cap UK wholesale energy prices and UK Supplier Energy prices back to pre 2020 levels.
This will have an immediate impact on UK inflation, interest rates and impending recession and the post brexit UK economy.

UK wholesale energy prices are out of control, with billions of profits being made by a handful of companies at the expense of everyone else.

We can protect vulnerable communities, people on low incomes, working people & businesses from adverse financial hardship.

There is NO JUSTIFICATION for wholesale energy pricing to wreck the UK economy and put more people into debt.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

The wholesale price for energy is determined by the cost of producing electricity, and is therefore not something that the UK Government or Parliament can set.

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to subsidise the cost of electricity where this exceeds a certain amount (which could be set based on pre-2020 wholesale prices).
