What the petition asks
Implement sanctions against the Somaliland Government and officials.
The Government should explore using the new sanctions regime that allows individuals and entities that violate human rights around the world to be targeted, to impose sanctions on members of the Somaliland government and police force involved in any human rights abuses by the Somaliland police.
There have been deeply concerning reports of a Somaliland police force unit (RRU) engaging in illegal activities and human rights abuses, there have also been reports of police firing at protestors calling for presidential elections to be held on time 13th of November 2022.
Deploying sanctions would provide accountability for and be a deterrent to anyone involved in violation of human right abuse.

Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you want to see the Government take action in relation to Somaliland, but it's not clear if you want the Government to withdraw foreign aid from Somaliland, sanction (or explore sanctioning) Somaliland individuals, or both.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
