Remove the link between electricity prices and the price of gas.

What the petition asks
We ask the Government to decouple the wholesale price of electricity from the price of gas.
The price of electricity produced by gas effectively sets the wholesale price, for all electricity generation even when it is far in excess of the generating costs of electricity produced by renewables and nuclear. The consumer ends up paying far above the true cost for the electricity.
The price of gas is at the mercy of events that are out of the control of the British government and therefore the existing price link means that under the current system the government also has no control over the cost of a unit of electricity.
