Bring back national ID cards

Closed 50 signatures

What the petition asks

We want the Government to bring back national ID cards, that were abolished in 2011, so that these can be used as a legal form of identification across the UK. Many non-governmental ID cards are not accepted by some businesses, so a national ID card is needed.
If you do not have a driving licence it can be difficult to prove your identity or age without carrying a passport, which many people do not want to carry around with them. Reintroducing a national ID card scheme would make it easier for people to prove their age and identity.
