What the petition asks
Trafalgar Square is a sacred space for memorialising Britain's greatest heroes. There are other, more suitable locations for a statue to Malawian statesman John Chilembwe.Whilst Chilembwe's achievements are considerable, his memory is not prominent in the British consciousness.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
Decisions about what is displayed on Trafalgar Square is a matter for the Mayor of London and London Assembly, not the Government or House of Commons.
