What the petition asks
We want the Government to extend any cap on social housing rent increases in 2023 to shared ownership properties.
We in Shared Ownership need help during the cost of living crisis. We are facing high rent increases this coming year, and need a new cap introduced to protect us.
Rent for shared ownership tenants can be increased by up to RPI + 0.5%. RPI is already above the rate of CPI, so many tenants are facing unaffordable rent increases. We require the same care and consideration for rent caps as people in social housing.
We are asking the Government to cap rents for shared owners at the same rate that housing association tenants are capped for 2023.
