Petition · past parliament
Change laws around tenant rights. Landlord's to go through referencing, too.

What the petition asks
Landlords regularly extort tenants when it comes to deposit returning. If the landlord has to be given a reference too from the outgoing tenant, they might extort tenants less, and the system become fairer.
I; like countless others, have been extorted by landlords who are only interested in exacting as much money from a tenant as possible. The rental market is chaotic, and I would like Government to bring some order to it. I don't think Landlords will be able to charge such extortionate rent prices if they have poor references.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
Decisions about whether to require references are a matter for individual landlords and tenants, not the UK Government or Parliament.
