What the petition asks
The Government's hate crime action plan ran from 2016 to 2020, and has not been replaced. We want the Government to produce an updated hate crime action plan, and introduce new duties for local authorities and the police to tackle hate crime.
Police Recorded Hate Crime (HC) in England and Wales 155,641 up 26% Race HC 109,843 up 19% Religious HC 8,370 up 37% Homophobic HC 26,152 up 41% Disability HC 14,242 up 43% Transphobic HC 4,355 up 56%.There should be no place for hate in the UK.
The Government should prepare a comprehensive hate crime action plan, and update legislation to create statutory duties for the police and local authorities to produce local hate crime action plans.
We also call on the Government to support initiatives like National Hate Crime Awareness Week and to actively encourage the authorities, key partners and communities affected by hate crime to work together to tackle all forms of Hate Crime across the UK.
