What the petition asks
There is a gap of around £55bn in the public finances. Soon there will be spending cuts of about £35bn and plans to raise some £20bn in tax in the coming years, it's right that the anual salaries of all 650 MPs should be cut by 50%. Lead by example!
If this petition reaches 100,000 signatures will go for debate and we are asking MPs and the government to draft a bill stating "anual salaries cuts of 50% for all MPs due to public spending cuts" and vote in favour for royal assent.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) is responsible for deciding on MPs' expenses and pay. IPSA is independent of both Parliament and Government.
