Require the UK flag and letters on new number plates from March 2023 by law

Closed 845 signatures

What the petition asks

Unlike many countries, the UK does not have the national identifier as a requirement on plates. Despite encouragement by the Department for Transport, many garages fail to put it on when selling cars. This can create problems for drivers when going overseas, as stickers can come off.
We want legislation to require number plates to include the UK identifier, with the letters UK and the Union Flag on a transparent background, as encouraged by the British Number Plates Manufacturers Association.

This should take away the headache for drivers, who have to carry spare stickers as many come off abroad, and could also help restore national pride in United Kingdom.
