What the petition asks
To reduce by 50% forthwith all ministerial salaries provided for under the Ministerial and Other Salaries Act 1975 for an initial period of 2 years as an emergency provision in light of the cost of living crisis. Ministers need to demonstrate their commitment to reducing the government deficit.
Ministerial salaries paid in addition to an MP’s basic annual salary of £84,144 & other substantial allowances range from just over 20k for the most junior minister ( assistant whip level) to over 99k ( Attorney General) (2021 - 2022 figures)
