What the petition asks
Parliament should be compelled to consider the introduction of legislation making it unlawful for any industrial action to reduce public transportation services by more than 50% over any period.
During a transportation strike, e.g. a rail strike, the inconvenience for members of the public and the consequential and detrimental damage to 1,000s of is unacceptable. Members of the transportation unions should retain their absolute right to take industrial action, however, it should be limited by law such that there is no more than a consequence of a 50% reduction in average timetabled services. That is, the public and essential business activities are uninterrupted.
