Legalise use of electric scooters on public highways for driving licence holders

What the petition asks
We believe electric scooters are an integral part of the future for short distance travel and should be made legal to use on public roads for those holding a provisional/full UK driving licence.
We believe there is no reason for private e-scooters to still be illegal when e-bikes are legal to ride.
At least one study has found that the incident rate for e-Scooters is lower than for bicycles, and e-scooters provide a clean and efficient mode of transportation.
Living in suburban areas I find myself using a car for shortish journeys when I could use an e-Scooter. This not only would save on pollution, but also congestion on already busy roads.
These scooters are already a success in many parts of Europe so let’s join the future and clean up our roads/air.
