Introduce a threshold of 60% for referendums to be successful

Closed 110 signatures

What the petition asks

We believe that the UK Government should pass a law requiring, in all cases, a minimum of 60% or over of the vote for referendums to be successful.
Referendums are used to hear the public’s voice on significant issues that affect them (such as Brexit) but too often these issues have been decided by a simple majority (the 50+1 system). With a slim majority (of just 2%) being seen in the recent ‘Brexit referendum’, in 2016, surely a larger majority would remove any ambiguity - especially important over such a divisive issue.
