What the petition asks
Wild camping has played a vital role in the life and wellbeing of local people and visitors to Dartmoor for so long. It is important to protect people's right to sleep under the stars, and connect with it respectfully. Our right to do this has been taken, and we want it restored and protected.
Dartmoor has played such a key role in the lives of those who live around it, and its many visitors. From childhood, locals learn to hike and camp in harmony with nature, forging a deep bond with the land. Camping in the wild and connecting with nature in this way is a wonderful opportunity, and an important part of mental wellbeing and healthy living for so many people. There are rules in place for how to camp respectfully, and the right to do so should always remain.
