No Open Access - No Agricultural Subsidies/Grants

Closed 174 signatures

What the petition asks

We, the public pay huge amounts of subsidies to land owners and farmers, many of whom are already wealthy. We want Open Access / Right to Roam / Camp to be a condition of receiving Agricultural Grants / Subsidies from the Government. If a landowner bans access they forfeit all Grants & Subsidies.
We believe it is wrong that farmers/landowners with huge tracts of land get money from the public purse when it is not possible for people to fully enjoy that land or spend a night outdoors. All open moorland & national parks are national assets and it should be for the nation to decide their role, not one wealthy landowner. In the light of this it is time access was linked to payments to landowners. Right to Roam works in Scotland, and we want action to protect these rights in England.
