What the petition asks
We would like teaching around the 1916 Sykes-Picot Agreement and it’s historical impact on the Middle East we see today to be included within the National key stage 3 and 4 history curriculum.
The Sykes-Picot agreement in 1916 divided the levant into what is now known as Palestine/Israel, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon & Southern Turkey.
This colonial history, we believe, has shaped a large part of the Middle East we see today and is an important component of British and world history.
Jews, Christians and Muslims lived peacefully across the levant historically. We believe the current conflict in this region is a result of this colonial influence.
