Petition · past parliament

Stop the April 2023 increase to energy prices cap.

Rejected 17 signatures

What the petition asks

Remove the planned price cap increase.
As gas costs have decreased, there is no longer any need for the planned increase.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

The calculation of the energy price cap is a matter for the regulator Ofgem, which is operationally independent of the UK Government and House of Commons. You can find out more about how the price cap is calculated here: https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/information-consumers/energy-advice-households/check-if-energy-price-cap-affects-you

The Government has put in place the Energy Price Guarantee, to reduce the cost of energy for households. You can find out more about this scheme here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/energy-bills-support/energy-bills-support-factsheet-8-september-2022

We have also published the following petition, which you might like to sign:
