What the petition asks
BBC Panorama found that out of 57 centres only 34 directed to NHS website or regulated abortion providers. Some centres are giving false or misleading advice and information.
The Government needs to regulate all 'pregnancy advice centres' to ensure women receive the appropriate advice.
Out of 57 providers:
- 34 directed women to the NHS website or regulated abortion providers
- 21 centres gave misleading medical information and/or unethical advice about abortion
- 7 centres said a termination could lead to "post-abortion syndrome" - a mental health condition likened to PTSD, which is not recognised by the NHS
- 8 centres linked abortion to infertility and problems carrying future pregnancies to term
- 5 centres erroneously linked abortion to an increased risk of breast cancer
These services need to be regulated.
