Include Health Warning Labels on Group 1 Processed Meats and Group 2a Red Meats.

Rejected 16 signatures

What the petition asks

The Food Safety Act 1990 makes it an offence for anyone to sell or process food for sale which is “harmful to health”. The (IARC) World Health Organisation have classified Processed Meats as “Group 1” “Causes Cancer”. Red Meats have been given “Group 2a”, Classification “Probably causes Cancer”.
Therefore not withstanding the legal requirements of “The Food Safety Act 1990”, foods that are categorised as “Group 1” and “Group 2a” should be appropriately labelled by including a 30% front-of-pack & 40% back-of-pack health warning, so that consumers can exercise their right to make an informed decision at the point of purchase, as to whether they want to consume these products based on the scientific evidence from Cancer UK, The National Cancer Institute & The World Health Organisation.
