What the petition asks
In recognition of the highly hazardous nature of publicly available, open flame, portable and throw away cooking units; introduce basic safety standards for their construction that considers heat transfer, the ability to contain flames and also the ability to move and remove the item.
Disposable BBQs reach temperatures of 400c+, their flames and heat cannot be contained, they cause extreme heat transfer into the the surface on which they sit & cannot be moved/disposed of easily.
As a direct consequence, they can be the cause of horrific injuries, significant environmental destruction and landfill waste.
Construction safety standards will significantly reduce risk and consequently the number of incidents of injury and destruction alongside reducing waste.
