Make voting in all elections compulsory

What the petition asks
Voting is a huge part of how our country is run it helps us decide who looks after our areas and helps repair our roads etc. In many elections the turnout is low, sometimes 30-40 percent. I believe it should be mandatory to vote and make sure everyone has their say.
Higher turnout could help make the electorate more representative and prevent voter suppression. We believe compulsory voting is important to achieving the universal democratic principle of "one person, one vote", strengthens democracies and better aligns the choices of its politicians with the preferences of its citizens. Since lower turnout elections are not randomized samples of an electorate (unlike a citizens' assembly), they can distort the wishes and power of the electorate.
