Ban Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in residential areas

Closed 1,874 signatures

What the petition asks

The development of BESS sites are becoming increasingly common. Private developers are purchasing greenbelt land, often located within a community, to install these.
We want the Government to ban developers from building these facilities close in residential areas, and near public amenities.

BESS sites are noisy, and potentially hazardous

Thermal Runaways can result in chemical fires that burn for days, releasing dangerous gasses and chemicals into the surrounding environment, including neighbouring land and watercourses, potentially affecting residential properties and local amenities.

Residential properties nearby may also suffer from noise pollution created by the BESS itself as it constantly cools the batteries.
