Introduce a national digital Blue Badge

Closed 821 signatures

What the petition asks

I want the Government to introduce a national digital Blue Badge to build on the example of a London council that has introduced an electronic Blue Badge holder permit. This was introduced to stop the theft of Blue Badges from vehicles, and permit holders don’t need to display anything.
Police use ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) to scan number plates to ascertain whether they have insurance. The City of London uses them to determine if a vehicle has paid the Congestion Charge and the ULEZ scheme. The technology exists. The systems to manage the data exists. RingGo is an app that is used throughout the UK, Europe and the World to determine if a vehicle has a permit to park. There is no reason apart from lack of initiative why a national ‘e’ Blue Badge scheme cannot be implemented. The Government should make use of best practices to introduce a national scheme.
