Create a medal for people who gave service during the Covid-19 pandemic

Closed 195 signatures

What the petition asks

To create a medal to award to persons who have provided service during the Covid-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom (including posthumously to those who have since died) but have not already received and do not qualify for other awards, to be called "The Civil General Service Medal (C.G.S.M.)."
The proposed C.G.S.M. should be automatically awarded (unless refused by the recipient):

- Persons registered with their local Social Services Department at the time as a Carer for a Qualifying Person and Recipients of Carers' Allowance/Carers' Premium (as they helped keep the NHS from becoming overwhelmed)
- Carers and other essential workers
- Staff and volunteers at foodbanks (especially those that supplied vulnerable people during the pandemic)
- Emergency and NHS staff
