Reinstate carrying forward time left on passports during renewal

What the petition asks
We used to get any remaining time left on our passport added to the expiry date of the new passport. We are now losing up to nine months on our passports, depending on when you renew. We believe this is not fair, and want the Government to reinstate the old rules.
We are sold a 10 year passport, when in fact we don't get 10 years. Factoring in that the renewal process takes around 10 weeks and you can't travel to many countries without 6 months validity, many passport holders lose around 8 months. It is only right for the customer to get what they pay for.
