Make social media and online accounts use verification with a scanned photo

Rejected 16 signatures

What the petition asks

Make social media and online accounts such as dating. A requirement to scan the person requiring an account with them to verify that the person in the picture is them and not an impersonator
To stop scammers. So innocent people know who they are talking to online and don’t get scammed out of money. Right now there are thousands if not millions of scammers using other people’s pictures impersonating them to scam people online. It’s not just celebrities it’s happening to anyone and it needs to be stopped. Just a simple thing would put a end to it. To scan your face and verify your account. So the person knows who they are talking too.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand you would like to improve the safety of people online but we are not sure what exact action you would like the Government to take. In any case not all social media accounts are set up or used on a device which has the ability to scan faces.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
