Make intentionally spreading misinformation a criminal offence

What the petition asks
We want the Government to create a new offence of intentionally spreading misinformation, so it is a crime to intentionally spread false information. Penalties should include removal from office for any elected representatives found guilty of this offence.
I think currently the most harmful thing to our country is that the media and politicians can poison the minds of the public. We need this to change before we can start making any real positive changes to how we run this country.
I believe that most people are good and have good intentions. The problem is they are constantly being fed misinformation by people who look to exploit them for their own gain.
A new offence for spreading misinformation could help tackle this.
