What the petition asks
As it stands SSP is given if employees are sick for 4 or more days in a row, including your non-working days, and is paid at £109.40 a week.
Allow employees SSP from the first day of sickness and make payments in line with the National Living Wage for an employee's contracted hours.
Allow employees SSP from the first day of sickness and make payments in line with the National Living Wage for an employee's contracted hours.
As it stands many people struggle to live on the current rate of £109.40 a week, and we believe this is not sustainable. People already facing a tough time are facing further uncertainty when they fall sick through no fault of their own. It is further exacerbated by the cost of living crisis where costs have risen exponentially. SSP has not risen adequately and needs to be linked to the National Living Wage, and paid from the first day of sickness.
