Urge Venezuela to tackle illegal mining and protect the Amazon rainforest

Closed 101 signatures

What the petition asks

We call on the UK Government to urge the Venezuelan government to increase efforts to stop illegal mining activities that are destroying the Venezuelan Amazon rainforest and the Orinoco River, and to respect the rights of the indigenous and local communities that live there.
The Venezuelan Amazon rainforest is one of the most biodiverse areas in the world and home to many endangered species. It borders UNESCO World Heritage site Canaima National Park. The Orinoco is the 3rd-largest river in South America and a vital source of water and life for millions of people.

These ecosystems are essential for climate regulation, biodiversity conservation, water security and human well-being. They are part of our common heritage and our shared responsibility.
