Legislate for water companies to reduce pipe leakage by 50% by 2033

What the petition asks
Our old pipe infrastructure leaks around 3 billion litres of water every day. That's around a fifth of the fresh water put into the system.
In other terms, it could fill the Royal Albert Hall every 40 minutes, or the Wembley Stadium nearly 3 times per day.
We cannot afford this colossal waste!
Water companies have committed to halving the 2017-18 leakage levels by 2050, however by then, it is projected many parts of our country will face significant water deficits by 2050. We urge the Government to legislate water companies to act in line with this urgency and meet the 50% reduction by 2033. With technology, such as in-pipe robotics and artificial intelligence, we believe this is a feasible timescale.
To ensure future water security, we must act now!
