Abolish the practice of ex-Prime Ministers having Resignation Honours Lists
Rejected
21 signatures
What the petition asks
Stop resigning Prime Minister's from bestowing honours on their cronies and filling the House of Lords with undeserving (and unelected) friends or relations. This applies especially to Prime Ministers who have been forced out of office in disgrace or even been convicted of crimes
It brings the whole honours system in to disrepute and makes a mockery of the idea that the UK is a democratic country and not a corrupt state
Why it was rejected
It was about honours or appointments, which petitions cannot cover.
The submission of nominations for honours and appointments by outgoing Prime Minister's is a convention, and the Government and Parliament cannot prevent outgoing Prime Minister's from submitting such nominations.
