Abolish the Dangerous Dogs Act

Rejected 10 signatures

What the petition asks

Abolish the Dangerous Dogs Act and instead make it the law to have a license to own an animal
As the Dangerous Dogs Act is based on what certain dog breeds look like not about how they are bred/raised. Licensing to own an animal would also help prevent other animal problems.

Why it was rejected

There was already a petition about this issue. Duplicates are rejected so signatures collect in one place.

You may wish to sign this petition which calls for a similar action: Remove breed specific legislation. Consider alternative methods for dog control.

Only part of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 relates to specific breeds of dog, but if you want the whole Act to be repealed we could accept a petition requesting this. You can view this legislation here: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1991/65/contents
