What the petition asks
"Public" transport is no longer truly public, as it is owned by companies running parts of it for profit. It is expensive and unreliable, making it an unviable alternative to cars for most people.
Make all of it free like the NHS, to discourage car use, encourage exercise and boost the economy.

"The Case for Making Public Transit Free Everywhere: From Spain to Germany and Luxembourg to Estonia, more and more countries are experimenting with fare-free transportation."

Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you're concerned about the current state of public transport, but we're not sure if you just want the Government to provide funding to make public transport free for all, or also nationalise public transport so that it is publicly owned.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
